Research Description

You are invited to participate in a research study on eating disorders and disordered eating within the sport of nordic skiing. This study is being conducted by Lilo Bean, a student at Bowdoin College. The Faculty Advisor for this study is Professor Crystal Hall of the Digital and Computational Studies at Bowdoin College. If you agree to participate in the study, you will be asked to complete a series of short answer questions.

Time Commitment

The survey takes about 10-15 minutes to complete.

Risks and Benefits

There is minimal risk associated with this survey. Your participation in this online survey involves risks similar to a person’s everyday use of the Internet. Taking the survey is comparable to having a one-on-one conversation with an interviewer about your experiences, except by doing it through a survey, your answers will be anonymous. You can skip any question you do not wish to answer. There is no direct benefit to you for participating, however, by taking part in the study, the researcher will gain information to help understand eating disorders in nordic skiing.

Data Storage and Confidentiality

All survey responses will be anonymous, in the sense that your name is not attached to the data in any way. However, demographic information may make your data less than completely anonymous. All data will be confidential and accessible only by the research team, and will only be used for purposes of this study. Only aggregated results will be reported or shared publicly.

Survey Result Use

The results of the study will be used in research on Eating Disorders in Nordic Skiing for a Digital and Computational Studies Class. If, at any time, you have comments or concerns regarding the conduct of the research or questions about your rights as a research subject contact the Bowdoin College Institutional Review Board Chair (IRB@bowdoin.edu) or Lilo Bean (lbean@bowdoin.edu).
