Bowdoin Alternative Break Trip Leader Application Part 1 - Individual Form
Application Process:
Step 1
: Each leader completes the Trip Leader Application, individually. Submit Step 1 before Step 2.
Step 2
: Co-leaders complete this form, the Trip Proposal, together, submitting one form per trip.
Deadline
for Steps 1 & 2 is midnight on April 17th
Step 3
: Accepted applications will have an interview the week of April 21st.

Interview Times.
After proposals have been initially discussed, each pair of prospective trip leaders will have an hour interview with the review committee. During the week of April 21st, please list the combined availability of your trip leader team between the hours of 9:00 am and 5:00 pm.
What is the location of your trip?
What is the focal social issue of your trip?
Please explain the connection between your proposed trip's location and the social issue. Limit your response to 200 words or less.
ASB Trip Planning:
A successful ASB trip balances service and unique experiences by addressing items such as service, leadership, culture & community, and nature or the environment. In order to make the most of your ASB trip, please outline how you plan to incorporate programming such as this into your time with your participants. Please limit response to 250 words.
Community Partners.
In order to demonstrate the commitment to their trip proposal, and integrity of the concept, trip leaders are encouraged to reach out to one or more of their proposed community partners to see if there is interest and availability to host a group from Bowdoin.
Describe the primary organization with which you'll be working. Include their web address, mission statement, services, target population or service area and information for your primary contact person there. Please summarize any communication you've had with the organization, particularly with regard to potential service projects. Please limit your response to 250 words or less.
Partner Organization Support.
Please provide correspondence with your proposed community partner by attaching a pdf of your communication. If you did not hear back from your community partner, please still provide examples of your outreach and request. Please upload in PDF format, with the file name of "trip leader last name.pdf"

Please list three organizations, besides your primary organization, that are in the same geographic area and would be feasible and relevant service sites if needed. Include the name of each organization, its mission, and potential service activities if known.
Housing & Transportation:
Briefly discuss your preferences for housing and transportation for your entire trip. How will you get from Bowdoin, to your housing, community partners, other necessary locations and back? What are your housing preferences (consider Airbnb and provide an example) and why? Please limit your response to 200 words.
Faculty or Staff Advisor:
Suggest two faculty or staff members whose research or experience makes them a suitable advisor for your trip. This person would provide insight on your social issue and location, and be available as a guest speaker at one of your participant seminars prior to your trip. DO NOT solicit advisors at this stage. Please provide their first and last name and department or affiliation, and what makes them relevant to your trip.
